snooze button

i have never been one to need that much sleep.  oh my that has changed.  i literally want to curl up and hibernate for a week or two.  how can i make this happen?

Oops, we did it again.

So the other day at dinner my Dr. Pepper didn't taste right and I decided I preferred a Coke.  That's when I knew.  Add that up with total exhaustion, raging hormones, acne and dizziness and I decided to confirm it.  Yup, we are pregnant again.  If you are in my "circle" you already know this, but we have held off any broad announcement due to it being so early.  Not many read my blogs anyway, so I decided to start talking about this, um, journey.  This pregnancy feels so different already.  I'm weak, dizzy and nauseous.  I had to quit taking my anxiety medicine, so I am on edge.  I'm hormonal.  And frankly, I'm scared.  We've had trouble staying pregnant and I'm only 5-6 weeks based on my HcG.  March 30th we go in for our first ultrasound, and I'll feel so much better.

Since I'm Celexa-free I've also got a lot on my mind.  What if it's a girl?  Can I do a girl?  Do I still like the name Autumn, it's what I've always wanted, but now it's reality?  Wait, I don't even know if it's a girl.  But it would be fun to dress a girl.  But a girl will hate me one day.  I'm a boy momma.  Huston needs a brother.  Or a sister.  If it's a boy they can share a room, and clothes and interests.  But if it's a girl I can do a girl nursery.  And get pedis.  Do we need a bigger home?  Will I work after having two?  Can we afford daycare for two?  Will Huston get enough activities if I stay home?  Where should we live?  Why is "kids" so much scarier than "kid"?  Is my car big enough?  I need to start reading how to make Huston feel included.  What if I'm too old to have a healthy baby? Wait, that is college x 2.  First car x 2.  Everything x 2.  Will I ever sleep?  Where is my pump?  We'll need a new stroller.  How would I do a girl nursery?  Ugh.

Huston is so cute about it all.  He is very excited that there is a baby in momma's belly.  Sometimes he has a baby in his belly too.  Then he says, "nooooooooooo" momma's belly.  He goes back and forth between brother or sister.

Doug is cute about it too.  He wants him a little Daddy's girl, but I think he is also terrified of the powers she will have over him.

It's really really early to start blogging and thinking and planning, but I can't help it.  It feels too real.

Huston - March 2012

This picture pretty much sums you up.  You are the biggest goofball!  You are such a funny boy and you can always make your momma laugh. Even when I'm trying to be mad.

We had a fun month, you went to see Toy Story Disney on Ice, and you loved every minute of it.  We went to a St. Patrick's parade and carnival and went went to the park.  A lot.  You are becoming a bit of a daredevil and also had lots of "owies" this month (strawberry on your elbow, scraped arm, scraped knee, HUGE gooseegg, and shins full of bruises).  You have learned how to use the scooter at Nama's (never mind that it is your cousin Jazzmin's and is princess pink) and you LOVE to skateboard with your Uncle Paul Paul.

Some of your funny sayings lately are:

• You hear a stomach growl, "I heard your tummy talking!"
• "Play toys?"
• We tell you to do something, you roll your eyes "Ahhhhkay".
• After bath time you run around the house "I'm NAKED BOY!"
• Nama blows you kisses, "I put it in my heart."
• "My turn, my turn"
• Wrestling with Daddy, "ALLLL night, baby!"

We have to start watching what we say too, because you told Daddy that Momma was a "turkey butt" the other day.  You asked Momma "Daddy beat you?" when you saw a bruise on my leg and have turned our playful "shut up" to each other to a very non-playful one when you want.

You have also learned the words to "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star", "Happy Birthday" and usually morph those two together with the alphabet and numbers.  You count to 8, sometimes higher and can do your ABC's pretty good.  You are obsessed with colors and shapes and point them out on everything you see.

You have also found a new love.  Super Heros.  You have decided Spiderman and Superman are your favorite "superguys".  You have also found Star Wars and still love your Yo Gabba Gabba and Toy Story guys.  They are all your "guys".

You also moved out of your toddler bed into a twin bed and now there is so much room.  You sleep with lots of toys, and sometimes momma when she falls asleep with you.

To get you ready for your first visit, you went to the dentist with momma.  You got right in my mouth with the hygienist and looked for a bit, decided it was no big deal and played the rest of the time.  Then when they told me I was doing a good job flossing and brushing, you informed them that your brush your teeth too and did a demonstration.

You still love "school" and tell me all about your friends the whole commute home.  You are learning a lot there and on sharing day you take toys that specific kids will like.  The other day you were so excited to take Spiderman, because "Bodi like Spiderman".

Now, all the cuteness aside, you are getting pretty stubborn.  You will repeat things back at me in a mean little voice, tell me no and even occasionally hit at me.  Notice I don't say that you do this to Dad.  If Dad looks at you the right way, you say "No Spanks!"  Obviously I need to get better at my spanks.... 

I can't write a post without telling you how handsome, smart, funny and amazing you are.  Every day your make us so proud and make our hearts swell.  We love you!

Huston - February 2012

Huston,

You are 2 and a HALF! You have grown up so much since your 2nd birthday. You are a very smart, funny boy and constantly amaze us.

You have already started learning your ABC's, numbers, shapes and colors. You shout out YELLOW GREEN (which I'm sure A's fan Dad loves) and 496 randomly and are very proud of yourself. I guess those are your favorites, but when asked you usually get your colors right and you can count to about 8 before you start throwing random numbers in. The other day you even spelled your name for me, but I think that was more from memory than reading it. You are also learning your shapes, which you demonstrated to me by showing me a graham cracker and saying square....then taking a bite off the edge and saying triangle. You also get very excited when you get to "X" in the alphabet and scream it out with all your might.

You are really enjoying school and you talk about your friends the whole way home. You are learning a lot there and they even taught you about prayer. Not only do you say "Amen" after thanking God, you also like to throw it at the end of lots of other things. In the mornings as we are leaving I say "Ready?", you say "Ready!" I say "Let's go" and you say "AMEN". I enjoy our time commuting together, we get about an hour each way. You sing and tell me all about your day. But you absolutely HATE the sun in your eyes. You will put on your sunglasses and start hitting at the air saying "SUN IN EYE, SUN IN EYE!" Most the time your sunglasses aren't enough and you will put your hoody over your face. Luckily it's only a small stretch that we face the sun.

You do not want our help with anything anymore. "Suston do it". We hear that a lot. You try and dress yourself, make your own meals, clean up your toys and pretty much anything else we try and help you with. This is great for us, we are getting some freedom! But sometimes it does take a little longer to get around

You are also talking in full sentences now and have some pretty cute sayings:

• "No, no, no momma/daddy" - complete with shaking finger
• "I"ll have one" - you raise your hand and say anytime we have something you want
• "It happens" - when you dropped something
• "More again" - when you want something to happen again
• "Lookit!" - this you get from your father, he says it to when he wants you someone to look at something
• "C'mon, follow me" - this is never good
• "Suston go?" - anytime we go anywhere

You also want to be sure you are saying it right, so you will repeat what you are saying until we say it back to you. If we say it a little differently (with correct grammar or tense) you will repeat it back the right way. I can just see your little brain ticking away.

Some funnies you've recently said.....I asked "Who do you think you are?" when you tried to steal the remote. You said "Suston". I asked "Are you my baby?" You said, "No, I'm punkin."

You also have started your own routine. If we change this routine up, you notice. At the end of each night, you get down on the floor and do your stretches with Dad. Then you play "Ready, Set, Go" which consists of you tackling him and saying "Allllll Night Babyyyyyy" in this gravelly voice.

You absolutely LOVED Valentines Day. You kept a box that you made at school with all of your valentines and looked through it every night for a week. When your box "disappeared", you looked for it for another week.

You are also starting to do quirky little things. You've always held onto one of your ears when you are drinking your milk. Now you love it when we run our fingers along your back. If we stop, you will say "TICKLE BACK" and put our hand back on it. You are very, very insistent on it. You also use your big toe and push down on the toe next to it.....your Dad does the same thing. You do this a lot, it's funny you do the same thing.

The terrible twos haven't hit you full on yet, but we are working on your throwing things and saying "no". You are pretty willful and will stare us down if we aren't telling you what you want to hear. We make you go sit in your room when you are in trouble and you do not like it at all. But you will sit there for a few minutes and then come back when you are calm.

You still sneak into our bed about 4-5am every most mornings, and I love it. Yes, I am a very tired momma, but I love you cuddling with me. Lately you've been putting your cheek right on mine when you sleep. It is very uncomfortable, but I wouldn't dare move - I love it too much.

We love you so much and are so so so proud of you!

Huston you are growing up so fast!

You have become a little sponge. Not only do you try to repeat everything we say (yes, that means we need to work on our cussing), you also copy everything we do. You are very interested in everything that goes around you and you are quite a little talker. You have added “Bless you” to your polite vocabulary when you hear someone sneeze, if I drive too fast or turn too sharp, you say “Careful mommy”, you always ask me, “What doing mommy?”, If dad calls you Bubby instead of your new nickname from him, Bub, you correct him with “No, daddy, Bub”, you tell us to “Sit” and “Lay down” and you pretty much copy everything we say to practice the words. The minute the dryer buzzes, you announce “Clothes done!” and when the ice maker drops ice, you scream “Ice!” Unfortunately, your new favorite phrase is “Stop it”. You say it even when we aren’t doing anything.

You are still obsessed with all things Toy Story, Thomas the Train, Cars and Yo Gabba Gabba. You love your “shows”, acting like a kitty cat or dinosaur, and you have found your “gun finger”…pow! And you love to jump. But most of all, you have discovered HIDING. We hide under the covers from Daddy for a large part of our evenings and some in the mornings. You don’t ever give away your location by laughing….well yes pretty much you always you do.

We haven’t quite figured it out, but 496 is your favorite number. Really. Anytime you see a number you say 496. Randomly, you say 496. If you try to count something, you say 496. I hope to one day win the lotto with this combination.

You are still my cuddler and will come up and say “I hold you” or “I hug you” when you need them. You have decided you like it when I run my hand up and down your back and if I stop too soon, you tell me to keep going. When you kiss your momma, you melt my heart and put both hands on my cheeks and give me smooches.

You love school so much and you have a best friend, Bodi. When you get to school he is the first person you ask for and when I pick you up, you give me a run down on what Bodi did all day. It makes me so happy that you have fun all day.

As with all two year olds, you do have some challenges. Right now yours is sitting still for a diaper change (although you SHOULD be potty training by now and have no interest), sleeping in your bed all night (you crawl in ours about 3am) and eating anything remotely healthy.  And you also picked up a nasty little habit of throwing toys.

Your favorite foods are yogurt, pretzels, the brown bread from Outback or Cheesecake factory (I’m talking multiple loaves at a time), fruit cups, fries, veggie straws, nuggets, mac and cheese. You have learned that you are allergic to chocolate and will say, “Chocolate hurt bum” (it gives you diaper rash). Your most favorite thing in the whole world is still milk – but with a twist. Momma showed you her secret of strawberry syrup (since you can’t have chocolate) and you LOVE it. You ask for “Swabeebee milk” all of the time.

My favorite moments this month:

Daddy’s Christmas party at work, you see me shake his bosses hand. You proceed to stick yours out and shake his too. SO CUTE!

Momma was working from home and you ask “What doing Momma?” I said “Working.”. You went and got your laptop, sat by me and said “Suston working too Momma”. SO CUTE!

We get behind a car and see the exhaust and you say “It’s cooking Momma, car is cooking”. SO CUTE!

Baby boy we love you so much and you are such a smart, funny and sweet boy. We couldn’t be more proud of you.

Friends

Every since Huston started his new daycare, when I ask him if he wants to go to school, he says "No momma, I go see friends".  His very best friend is Bodi and he talks about him all of the time.  Most of the kids there are his age and he has such a great time.  They have a huge backyard full of sand pits, a jungle gym, basketball hoop, toy bikes, and all kinds of fun toys.

Love in Action

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love.
