This is my view when I look down. At 35 weeks, Nolan is making his presence known. My belly moves so much that I catch strangers and co-workers looking at it then quickly looking away. This little boy is a mover and a shaker.
Since I am an old lady to my doctors, I have to go in for non-stress tests (NSTs) twice a week. Basically the goal is to get 20 minutes of continuous heartbeat with at least three kicks or movements so that they can make sure the heartbeat is accelerating properly.
They strap me up and I try to get as comfy as I can. Typically I have to be on one side to get a good reading, so this is what I look like.
Seems simple enough right? Wrong. Little Nolan is already a trouble maker and moves so much that they lose his heartbeat. Which means that they have to start the 20 minutes over each time he dodges the monitors. The nurse thinks it's hilarious because most little kids are put to sleep by the sound of the ticking...not this little man. It must bug him, because he tries to kick it off. I have literally seen air between the monitor and my skin where he kicks to get it away from him. They definitely get enough accelerations from him, which is usually their challenging part. Now we just need him to stay under the monitor and we'll be set.
I go on maternity leave in less than a week and am scheduled to meet this little earthquake in about a month!
